A Power Within

Watching Clouds.

Watching Clouds…

I’m watching clouds today.
You know, when the sky is the colour of cornflowers and the wind is high in a sky as large as an ocean,
these white fluffy cottonwool shapes scud past as
I lie on my soft snugly bed, the sky clear and lemony sunny,
I’m watching clouds today.

My balcony door is wide open, the breeze is sharp and Winter fresh, my nose is going pink
but under my warmest blanket with hot water bottle in place I am as warm as if being on a Caribbean beach.

I’m seeing the world today.

One soft white air-balloon sped by, I am sure people were waving,
followed by a perfect Isle of Wight
then came a magical galleon ship, well maybe not quite a galleon ship but huge sails full of powerful gusts puffed out in front, full I’m sure of gold and pearls.
Then a strangely big leg of Italy very close, kicking away from the rest of its land.
I’m watching clouds today.

An odd tree came next, most shapely I thought, blown sideways but I turned my head just in time. Then came a large alligator not of white clouds but formed from the gaps between but you never have cornflower blue alligators do you?
Imagination is a wonderful thing.

I’m watching clouds today.

Can I Mention Your Name.

When I don’t mention your name

it wishes to slip through my lips

it rolls around in my mouth

it hinders my speech

you are not a memory lost

you are with me always

yearning to escape,

please can I mention your name?

A new guest for tea

like old school friends relaying

the years past, the joy of connection

laughter and life,

she asks your name

it flows like a coursing stream

channels down on fresh white linen it falls,

it ripples, slides and spills…

Oh the joy of saying your name

oh the passage of cherished time

fills my heart making my ears happy,

your name tastes of sweet soft

honey on my tongue,

it tastes of Caspian beluga caviar

on thin warm blinis,

it makes my eyes open wide with joy,

it is my heaven it is my desire…

 Can I mention your name…

Imaginings:

I took a walk along the little mews and lanes of my nearby town yesterday, passing by the old Workhouse and on to the Old Dispensary. It was a pleasingly warm almost summer day. I stopped long enough to take this photo but sat further for a while on a nearby wall. I have a good imagination and sat pondering how many times over the years folk had gone with hope in their hearts to collect medicines from this dispensary. I dreamt of how they would have looked, the clothes, whether they walked or cycled or came by horse and cart, or even a carriage., there is a lane immediately alongside after all. Life no doubt would not have been easy and the cost of a doctor great. The chemist sat tightly next to the old workhouse in a small mews with old cottages nearby, reminding me of so many television period dramas.

As I sat I dreamt of another era, of long dresses and capes, of black shiny horses and gallant gentlemen. I dreamt of rogues and vagabonds too and of a life before. I dreamt of child chimney sweeps. I thought of the poverty of some, maybe many? I dreamt of children caught in epidemics with no answer for them. For there were many during this time, influenza, diphtheria, tuberculosis and so many more. I wondered deeply of the folk who lived in the nearby cottages. Still quite beautiful but were they then?

Nestled between two nearby rivers would have meant plenty or rats and the disease they bring. No toilets inside, no electricity but a much simpler way of life but with hardships and a much tougher life.  Still  I’m sure many pleasures dwelt within too!

More than a few I suppose would never ever have left this small town in Lincolnshire and even now this can be the case. My young garden-helper tells me, that he had never been to London but HAS been to Skegness some 20.4 miles away…he is twenty-three! I suspect this is not unusual.

After I had sat for a while dreaming of days gone by, a young lady came and sat nearby with her take-away meal and what seemed like many little pots of tomato sauce, her lunch I suppose,  she proceeded to dot the sauce over everything – we smiled – I am sure it was very tasty but smelt strongly of grease and so much of modern times… I tried not to sigh and not to look at the grease leaking through the paper bag  and thought how all of a sudden  “The great black shiny horses had  came up and licked the frost from my dream…” I turned and continue my walk.

**~The Workhouse was in use from 1735 to 1837 and the Dispensary gave ‘Medical Aid to the Poor’ between 1789 and 1866. The Public Dispensary was also a dental surgery for a time.. Colourwashed
rendered brick with a roof hidden behind a parapet. 2 storey, 3 bay
front with doorway to left, with plain doorcase, overlight and
panelled door. 2 glazing bar sashes to right. 3 glazing bar
sashes above. Dispensary opened in 1789 and was sponsored by Sir
Joseph Banks and was used until 1866. Source: Horncastle Town.

Chateau Magic.

image

Just as a child’s fairy tale
this vision of mystique dreams,
this magnificent realm of
chateau magic
that I have ever seen,
romance abounds
within these walls
built from love, I’m sure.

This immense bastion
this estate and stronghold
is more,
this private kingdom
magical, mystical, spectral
it is of fairies, spirits,
it is of goblins,
of this I’m sure…

To live this life without romance
without dreams and fairy tales,
would dull the days
make indolent the evening song,
no ‘folly’ that provides such delight
where feasts the eyes such tranquility
and joy,
of this I’m sure…

Of this I’m sure…

Adrift – by Susie

 image

Adrift, swooping swallows our only shade
ends indolent inert day,
laying naked in sun warmed ‘muddle’
the gentle sway of bobbing boat
reveals this sleepy scene,
the postprandial glass in hand,
a passage, a chasm,
this hiatus, this pause in time,
adrift, at mercy of our circumstances.

“Up Where We Belong”
plays loudly in my mind as
swallows break this torpid air
serenading their mating call
and this evening song…

Swallows are able to produce many songs, which are used to express excitement, to communicate with others of the same species, during courtship. The songs of males are related to the body condition of the bird and are presumably used by females to judge the physical condition and suitability for mating of males. The typical song of swallows is a simple, sometimes musical twittering.

“A Letter Between Two Woman” – We Meet At Last.

Tomorrow is such a special day as I am planning to meet Susan from Colorado here in Lincolnshire.  As readers to my blogs will know I have been ‘virtual’  friends with Susan for many years now.  Susan is the other half of “A Letter Between Two Woman” which had been published here and shown below. We ‘came together’ across the many miles between us through the similarities of our situations. Susan was married to Dan whom she lost to Multiple Myeloma in 2012.

We already feel we know each other well and I am very excited to finally meet her. I shall update you all with our planned day – this will be such fun as although, through reading my blogs dear Susan has seen my face and feels she will know my face in a crowd, I on the other hand, have never seen a photo of her – so let’s hope we finally get together – watch this space.

Ready For The Cyber-Ball At “Willow Manor”

Susie in Dior Dress      mark your calendars!    IMGP3168

I have taken my beautiful  “Borgo degli Ulivil”  sparkling grey dancing shoes, from their satin lined box, my soft grey “YSL“ velvet evening purse from it’s silken drawstring pouch. I have fixed my long tresses, in a more elaborate style. Drenched myself in Coco Chanel and slipped into my twinkling jet encrusted long “Dior” gown. I have brought all my diamonds from the safe for this is indeed, a special occasion!

So here I am, the journey was uneventful, my elderly Rolls purred along the English countryside to our dear little airfield.  The flight across the pond was smooth, fast and over in what seemed like a mere moment or two, my pilot for the evening trip is my dear friend Richard Branson.

I am at the “Willow Manor Ball” waiting now for charming Al Pacino  to lead me to the dance floor for the first tango, and then whoever is able to dance with style and passion would be most welcome. Perhaps that charming Skip Simpson, I think he is taken with that pretty Cameron something or other. Or could it be my old friend Omar, he is a tad tired these days but still likes to dance and such a one for the scintillating conversation that I love, when of course he can bear to leave the poker table. We have had some wonderful games of backgammon over the years in his charming apartment overlooking the Nile near Cairo

How wonderful that I am attending the  Cyber ball at “Willow Manor”  Such fun we are all having, with wonderful  Beluga Caviar on the daintiest of Blinis with just a glass or two of Vintage,  Dom Perignon bubbles.

The orchestra is playing all the old dance numbers from many shows I can recall, my feet are yearning to dance, could that be Mr Astaire over there?  I am thrilled my dance card is full to the brim!   How simply wonderful the hostess looks and all these terribly handsome  men over there, surrounding Marilyn Monroe. What a party this is turning out to be,  here at “Willow Manor”

The Manor I must say looks amazing, with  much crystal reflecting their acting prisms of lights on the  most beautiful  rich brown mahogany floors. The flunkies are everywhere with trays of the most delicious canapés. The smell of  the huge vases of Lilies and Red Roses are overpowering – so reminding me of my poem “Lilies”  – and that truly wonderful place years ago… but I digress, no more of that.

I am here to enjoy this evening to the full and I have noticed some  admiring glances from several of the more mature men! I think I recognizes dear Paul Newman and is that not the charming young cove Johnny Depp? and can I see our dear old Richard Burton chatting away to Dame Helen Mirren, yes I’m right, just behind that marble pillar next to Eric Clapton and his friend, the handsome dark haired man from Santana.  I believe they are playing later tonight. I shall look forward to that.

What a splendid array of guests, pulling dreams and memories from my mind, how charming they all are. We might have a salsa or two later, there are some very swarthy slim young men here. I heard  a very beautiful redhead mention that  the wicked Lord Byron is also at Willow Manor tonight!  I will work my way around the room later and enquire after his health.

I can see  John Lennon in deep conversation with dear Luther, ahh now will he be singing I wonder?  then my evening will be complete. Umm, those lush deep tones of blues and soul, I can hear a sax playing in the ball room “ Heaven I’m in heaven” da da da la la la la… de  da da  dee…” when I’m out together dancing cheek to cheek.”

We shall be going into dinner soon, I am almost overwhelmed, as our superb hostess has informed me,  I am to be sitting between dear Tony Bennett and Robert Redford and opposite the young and very handsome Elvis Presley, whom I understand is to be singing later. Oh what fun we are all having !!!.

The evening is young, alas I am not, but still…it is a delight,  full of dreams for everyone who attended the  enchanting “Manor Ball” A flight of the imagination perhaps…..?

Update from Willow Manor 14.10.2009

“Some of the highlights of the evening, besides all the exciting celebs, was the strange Drambuie brew that TFE brought along, completely rendering us insane with one little sip, the SnL One jet ride from Skip and the Silver Fox, a fabulous dune buggy show on the front lawn from Thomas Crown, and Reya reading from her crystal ball in the manor library.
This fun event would have been nothing without all the wonderful imaginations and efforts of all of you dear, dear bloggy friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It truly was an enchanted evening”
